Description:
Euan Kemp, winner of Scottish Young Musicians Solo Performer of the Year 2024, said: “I feel amazing having won this competition and honoured to have represented East Dunbartonshire and Douglas Academy.

“I’ve been making music in East Dunbartonshire for the whole of my musical career, starting with the children’s chorus in P2 and then growing through playing in orchestras and ensembles both in school and the wider Local Authority. It’s such a nurturing, supportive and enjoyable environment to be a part of and I’m proud to bring this trophy home to them.”

Euan receives £1,000 to spend on furthering his musical career and the Maid of Morven trophy made by the Kings’s Sculptor in Ordinary in Scotland Alexander Stoddart FRSE.

Euan also receives a package of opportunities provided by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland including a coaching session, participation in a masterclass and a studio recording session.

Jake Johnstone, who left audiences enthralled with his accordion pieces which were accompanied by his younger sister on the piano, and Magnus Shanks, who wowed with his piano performance, both receive £250 to spend on musical activities and a coaching session and masterclass slot at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

For the first time this year the winner of each of the other categories was announced live at the end of the final. Hannah Pringle from Stirling won the strings category, Thomas Lamb from Clackmannanshire won in brass, Amelia Leishman representing Edinburgh won for percussion, and East Ayrshire’s Aimee Sharp was announced as the winner of the vocal category. They will each be awarded career-enhancing experiences thanks to the generosity of some of the UK’s top music organisations.

The panel of judges was led by trumpeter John Wallace CBE, former Principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He was joined by soprano Jane Irwin, violinist Greg Lawon, clarinettist Adam Lee and pianist Sinae Lee. They had the difficult job of selecting the winner and two runners up from performances on a range of instruments including saxophone, clarsach, accordion, guitar, pipes, trumpet and more.

The day culminated in performances by the winning Scottish Young Musicians Brass Ensemble of the Year Campbeltown Brass Ensemble and Ensemble of the Year, Belmont Academy Woodwind Ensemble from South Ayrshire.

Alan Kerr, Chair of Scottish Young Musicians, said: “Today we’ve seen 31 incredibly affecting performances from young people representing 99% of Scotland’s school-aged population.

“The standard of performances has been extraordinarily high and we’ve seen some very emotional playing that has left our audience, and adjudicators, absolutely enthralled.

“The final is the culmination of individual school and local authority competitions. While today we witnessed some of our most gifted musicians, the festival’s aim is to encourage the broadest participation of all talents through all communities.

“Credit goes to the enthusiasm of teacher

England used to relish playing in front of a home crowd under Sarina Wiegman, but it is starting to feel like that magic is wearing off.

Defeat against France, their first loss in a qualifying fixture for 22 years, leaves them with work to do if they want to retain their European crown in Switzerland next year.

Only the top two teams will progress automatically from what is a tough Euro 2025 qualifying group, with England now in third place.

They now have to travel to France, who they play again on Tuesday, before facing Ireland at home and Sweden away in July.

Perhaps what is most concerning for Wiegman is that her side has taken just one point from their two home fixtures.

The Lionesses lacked a spark and, in truth, many looked tired after a testing season. Elisa De Almeida’s superb volley, which brought France level after Beth Mead had opened the scoring, was undoubtedly the best moment of a game lacking quality.

‘The result is disappointing and I think unnecessary,’ Wiegman said.

‘I think our performance was good for most parts of the game. The first part of course was very different than [what] we were expecting, so we had to find our feet to get started. After that we did well, we scored a goal, I think we had chances of scoring more, and then they scored from a corner. That was disappointing.

‘Then in the second half, I think we controlled the match more than we did in the first half. But we didn't score, we created almost no chances, so it's that pass that will create the best chance, or the touch, or the cross, in many moments we played pretty well but it's very frustrating that we then conceded a goal from a corner [set-piece], we know they're very good at that, so we wanted to do that [defend set pieces] very well, and in some moments we did but in too many moments we didn't.’

For the first time since February 2023, Wiegman was able to select a centre-back pairing of Leah Williamson and Millie Bright, with both players having spent time out injured in the last year.

But the decision not to select Alex Greenwood, who has enjoyed a fine season with Manchester City, at either center-back or left-back was puzzling.

Greenwood was arguably England’s best player at the World Cup last summer and her composure on the ball and passing ability was missed.

Things got off to a bad start for England when Mary Earps was forced off after just five minutes.

The goalkeeper, who was making her 50th international appearance, appeared to twist her hip after a routine pass and despite efforts to continue, was replaced by Hannah Hampton.

After a cagey opening, Ella Toone could have put England ahead mid-way through the half when she connected with Lauren Hemp’s cross in the box, but her effort spun just wide.

Hemp continued to cause problems down the left wing and, on the half-hour mark, created the opener. The forward’s cross evaded Alessia Russo and Georgia Stanway, who was perhaps fouled by Selma Bacha as she tried to connect with the deliv

The Ring Two is a 2005 American psychological supernatural horror film and sequel to the 2002 film The Ring, which was a remake of the 1998 Japanese film Ring. Hideo Nakata, director of the original Ring, directed this film in place of Gore Verbinski. Noam Murro was attached before Nakata but left due to creative differences. Naomi Watts, David Dorfman and Daveigh Chase reprised their roles with Simon Baker, Elizabeth Perkins and Sissy Spacek joining the cast. This film also marks the debut of Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

The film was shot in Astoria, Oregon, and Los Angeles, California. Originally intended to be released on November 10, 2004, The Ring Two was released theatrically on March 18, 2005. Although it was met with generally negative critical reception, it opened in the United States with a strong $35 million in its first weekend, more than doubling the opening weekend of The Ring. Its final $76 million domestic gross was less than the original's $129 million, but it took
