This is how we remember our Bravehearts, this is how mothers and fathers tell the stories of Bravehearts like Captain Vikram Batra. The newly graduate from IMA Batch 101 was Second-in-Command of Delta Company of 13th Battalion of J&K Rifles when the enemy broke the sanctity of agreement and infiltrated our country, thus initiating the Kargil War. Captain Vikram Batra did the impossible that led to our victory in the war, but this is not how his batchmates remember him. Did you know our Captain was afraid of heights? During his academy days, he used to devise new excuses to get out of activities that included climbing heights or a trivial activity such as jumping from a 10m diving board. _meet-the-makers-the-sheffield-womenswear-designer-with-fashion-in-her-blood.webp "Our choice of clothes helps to define how we think of ourselves and how we think of others.<br/>An outfit can suggest social status, political beliefs, a certain taste in music and even our mood on any given day - there’s always story<br/>behind the clothes we wear.<br/>It’s one of the reasons Harriet Eccleston, whose clothing brand goes by the same name, felt compelled to continue in a family tradition of tailors, drapers and milliners stretching back generations.<br/>“It’s quite a personal thing,” she said. “The garments that you wear are one of the first things that people see about you and I guess (they) interpret your characteristics or your personality through your choice of clothing and that has always interested me - the emotion, the personality that clothes can bring out.”<br/>Working out of her one room workshop in the Albyn Works, a former<br/>factory building in Sheffield’s Kelham Island, Harriet creates<br/>womenswear with sustainability and heritage at its core.<br/>From ideation and fabric cutting all the way through to hand stitching buttons and packaging items, Harriet’s head, heart and hands are behind it all.<br/>The finest British cottons and wools are taken and combined with a soft colour palette to create elegant garments with a classic versatility.<br/>Yet the reason Harriet’s creations stand out is beyond their aesthetic.<br/>Examine them more closely and you find storytelling and tradition woven into every piece.<br/>The influence of Harriet’s ancestry is evident throughout her business.<br/>“Fashion is in my blood, their stories are in my heart,” reads her website.<br/>Scattered amid the fabric swatches and sketches on the work surfaces and pin boards of her workshop are black and white photos of a moustachioed man immaculately turned out regardless of the scene he appears in.<br/>The man’s name is E.D. Soulsby and he’s Harriet’s great great<br/>Grandfather. <br/>In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Soulsby, owned and ran a menswear shop in the industrial heartlands of Northumbria.<br/>“It was in the family for generations - everybody mucked in and was part of it.<br/>“My granny spent a lot of time there until she was married and she told me a lot of stories. <br/>“They specialised in quality menswear clothing and the idea was they were pieces that would last.”")

What an innings it was! Chasing 300 on a 4th or a 5th-day pitch is the toughest task in international cricket but Kusal Perera made it seem easy that day.<br/>Perera's innings against South Africa in the first test in 2019 was nothing short of extraordinary. No one gave Sri Lanka a chance at the start of the match. They were battered and bruised by England at home and were smashed by New Zealand and Australia Down Under. But as they say 'Never say Never' in sports. They fought till the final second and found a superhuman in the form of Kusal Perera. Let me remind you, this wasn't scripted. But even the greatest of storytellers wouldn't have scripted it any better. Perera's innings was filled with aggressive stroke play and resilience, defying the South African bowling attack against all odds. <br/><br/>In the first test against South Africa in 2019, Sri Lanka was struggling at 52-3 chasing 304 when Kusal Perera stepped up to the crease with determination in his eyes.<br/>Facing a daunting target, Perera showcased incredible skill and resilience against a formidable South African bowling attack consisting of Dale Steyn, Keshav Maharaj, and Kagiso Rabada. Sri Lanka was slowly moving closer to the target at 206-5 but the 64th over changed things when they lost 2 wickets in two balls, this started a domino effect and Sri Lanka’s score became 226-9 in the 70th over. With Perera at 86 and the no. 11 batter as his non-striker, it looked like South Africa would cruise home easily but Perera shifted gears and started talking in boundaries. He did not spare any bowler, whether Steyn, Rabada, or Maharaj.<br/>Perera defied the odds with every stroke, displaying unmatched courage and determination. <br/>And when he reached his century, the crowd erupted in celebration, recognizing the sheer brilliance of his innings. The job wasn’t done yet.<br/>His teammates watched in awe as he single-handedly led Sri Lanka's charge towards victory.<br/>There was a chance of a catch in the 83rd over but it dropped short of Elgar at 3rd slip, du Plessis picked the ball and aimed at the non-striker’s end but missed the direct hit and went for 5 runs. Even luck was on Sri Lanka’s side that day. Perera continued his conquest and got Sri Lanka home 3 overs later.<br/>He played a match-winning knock of 153*, guiding Sri Lanka to a historic one-wicket victory their 2nd ever in test cricket. Their first one-run victory was also against South Africa at Colombo in 2006.<br/><br/>Kusal Perera's innings will be remembered as one of the greatest displays of skill and determination in the history of cricket.")
