In the film, after arriving in British India, Indiana Jones is asked by desperate villagers to find a mystical stone and rescue their children from a Thuggee cult practising child slavery, black magic, and ritual human sacrifice in honour of the goddess Kali.<br/><br/>Not wishing to feature the Nazis as the villains again, executive producer and story writer George Lucas decided to regard this film as a prequel. Three plot devices were rejected before Lucas wrote a film treatment that resembled the final storyline. As Lawrence Kasdan, Lucas's collaborator on Raiders of the Lost Ark turned down the offer to write the script, Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, who had previously worked with Lucas on American Graffiti (1973), were hired as his replacements.<br/><br/>Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was released on May 23, 1984, to financial success, grossing $333.1 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 1984. Initial critical reviews were mixed, criticism was aimed at its strong violence, as well as some of its darker story elements. However, critical opinion has improved since 1984, citing the film's intensity and imagination. In response to some of the more violent sequences in the film, and with similar complaints about the Spielberg-produced Gremlins (which was released two weeks later), Spielberg suggested that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) alter its rating system, which it did within two months of the film's release, creating a new PG-13 rating. _special-beacon-lighting-ceremony-lined-up-in-tenby-to-mark-80th-anniversary-of-the-d-day-landings.webp "Plans are in hand for Tenby to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings with a special beacon lighting ceremony on Castle Hill.<br/>Instead of lighting beacons to mark his Coronation last year, His Majesty, The King requested that they be lit on Thursday, June 6, 2024 to mark the anniversary of Operation Overlord.<br/>A similar beacon lighting ceremony took place at the seaside town for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee back in June of 2022.<br/>The largest naval, air and land operation in history, the World War Two landings at Normandy in 1944 saw the opening of Europe’s Second Front which would eventually lead to the downfall of Hitler’s Nazi regime 11 months later.<br/>Mayor of Tenby, Cllr. Dai Morgan, fellow councillors, representatives of Tenby Royal British Legion and local cadet units, will leave Castle Square at The Harbour at approximately 8.50pm on June 6 to process up to Castle Hill.<br/>There, following the reading of the International D-Day Tribute, Cllr. Morgan will light Tenby’s beacon to form part of a UK wide chain of Beacons and Lamp Lights of Peace at 9.15pm.<br/>All are welcome to join in at this commemoration.<br/>Earlier in the day, at 11am, the Mayor will also lay a wreath at the town’s War Memorial in remembrance of all those who gave their lives during the Landings."){kind=tracking}
