_92.webp "A homeless woman says living in a bus shelter with her boyfriend and mum is safer than being put in temporary housing with drug addicts.<br/><br/>Destiny Mitchell moved into the 3m (9.8ft) by 1m (3.2ft) glass and metal shelter in Selly Oak, Birmingham, seven months ago.<br/><br/>The 26-year-old, who has autism, lives in the disused bus stop on Bristol Road with boyfriend Ryan, 31, and her 44-year-old mum.<br/><br/>Destiny says the council offered them temporary accommodation but she does not want to be separated from her mum who also has autism.<br/><br/>The trio have tried to give the graffiti-covered shelter home comforts with a carpet, drawers and even an old pair of Super Mario curtains where the timetables were once displayed.<br/><br/>They have also been given garden chairs, a bin and sleeping bags from wellwishers.<br/><br/>She says the three of them use sellotape and cardboard given to them by students to patch up leaks in the roof and walls of their shelter.<br/><br/>Destiny says they slept in a doorway of a Greggs but moved into the bus stop after being moved on by the police. <br/><br/>Speaking today, she said: “When we found this place it was my idea to create this living space. <br/><br/>“Before I lived in a bus stop, I was sleeping in a blanket on the floor, but I didn't feel safe. <br/><br/>“I’ve been living here for seven months. Before that we lived near Greggs before the police moved us on. <br/><br/>“Because we’re not students they don't have housing for us. <br/><br/>“There’s three of us in here, me, my partner and my mum. This is all new to me, I used to live in a tent. <br/><br/>“I’ve been homeless for two years off and on. At one point our tent got burnt down.<br/><br/>“I’m from Wolverhampton and I had a flat but bad things happened and I had to leave it and was made homeless. That’s when we came to Selly Oak. <br/><br/>“I saw this bus stop out of use. It was cold and starting to rain. We’ve had to sellotape the roof to stop the rain getting in. <br/><br/>“The students help me sellotape the windows, I’ve got a chest of drawers, a carpet.”<br/><br/>The family will now have to move out after Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) announced it was demolishing the bus shelter within weeks.<br/><br/>Destiny added: “They’ve said we’ve got a month left and they’re going to destroy it. <br/><br/>“I’ve been in here a long time, I don’t want them to destroy my home, we haven't got anywhere else to live. <br/><br/>“If the council doesn’t help us we’re going to try and move into another bus stop. <br/><br/>“We wanted to get a caravan. We don’t want to go into a shared house because of drug users. We don’t want that, we don't use drugs. It's not safe for us.<br/><br/>“They are saying they won’t house my mum and us together. My mum’s disabled.<br/><br/>“I want them to house us before they take the bus shelter down.<br/> <br/>“I just want to make sure we all stay together as a family, that’s all I want.<br/><br/>“Nobody gives me any money. I haven’t got any clothes, I haven't got a bra on. <br/><br/>“No one gives me any money to buy what I need. They give me food but I need clothes too.")

That growth has now minted a new billionaire: Roger Samuelsson, the 60-year-old Swedish cofounder of Switzerland-based SHL Medical, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of autoinjectors. Forbes estimates he’s worth $3 billion, largely thanks to his 69% stake in the company he cofounded in 1989. The remaining 31% is held by Swedish private equity firm EQT—which has minted seven billionaires over the years—and Athos, the family office of the billionaire Struengmann brothers. _one-fifth-of-americans-think-about-next-vacation-while-on-vacation.webp "One in five Americans are “always” thinking about planning their next vacation while on vacation, according to new research.<br/><br/>A survey of 2,000 adults who travel found that one in five long to be on vacation again the day they get back (21%) and another 27% said this feeling sets in within a week.<br/>The average person spent 11 days on vacation in 2023.<br/><br/>Looking ahead, the average American wants to spend 15 days on vacation in 2024 and, if they had unlimited PTO, they’d want to spend 18 days.<br/><br/>Although just a quarter of respondents said they travel more than the average person they know, 46% want to be known as a frequent traveler by others in their life.<br/>Conducted by OnePoll for timeshare brand Club Wyndham, the survey found that 89% of those surveyed said vacation reduces their stress levels, even temporarily, with 84% saying a vacation can relax them and decrease stress for up to two whole weeks upon returning.<br/><br/>A majority of respondents said that they consider vacations as a form of self-care (86%).<br/>Similarly, eight in 10 would be interested in a “do-nothing” vacation where they sit by the pool, beach or inside reading a book or relaxing.<br/><br/>“According to the survey, more than 70% of potential travelers count down to their vacation, and a majority long to travel again just one week after returning home,” said Annie Roberts, senior vice president of club and owner services at Club Wyndham. <br/>“With today’s travelers often putting a great deal of time and thought into the trip planning and dreaming stages to ensure a vacation that is well tailored to their interests, it’s not surprising that they want to experience the ‘vacation glow’ again and again.”<br/><br/>To make sure they get what they’re looking for, those surveyed go to great lengths to plan their vacations.<br/><br/>Respondents want to steer clear of discomforts like sharing a bathroom with others (27%) and want to avoid situations where they would have difficulty sleeping (27%).<br/><br/>Nearly a quarter of travelers said sharing a hotel room isn’t ideal and the same percentage said small hotel rooms were a dealbreaker (23%, each).<br/><br/>Most Americans surveyed said that when on vacation with others, they prefer having their own or extra space to spread out (79%), including 82% of parents.<br/><br/>If they had their dream hotel room, respondents would make sure there was Wi-Fi (55%), a private balcony or outdoor area (41%), a large bedroom (37%), a large bathroom (33%) and a full-sized kitchen or kitchenette (32%).<br/><br/>“With nearly a third of respondents (29%) spending most or all their time at their hotel or resort while on vacation, it’s clear that travelers deserve more than just a place to sleep,” said Roberts. “People want to ensure their vacation decisions bring them quality, consistency and peace of mind for their entire experience. Accommodations that actually enhance your vacation, like separate bedrooms, bathrooms and full-sized kitchens, offer travelers a special luxury — the chance to gather comfortably to enjoy shared moments that become lifelong memories.”<br/><br/>Survey methodology:<br/>This random double-opt-in survey of 2,000 Americans who travel was commissioned by Club Wyndham between March 22 and March 28, 2024. He’s never tried to jump out - he's gotten so used to riding now he rides partially with his front paws on my back rest to see over my shoulder. <br/><br/>“He’s a good rider, he knows how to shift his weight and he’s pretty amazing.” <br/><br/>Joe, wife Penny, 60, and their two daughters adopted Oreo from the local humane society after Joe provided volunteer welding services.<br/><br/>Abbey, 18 and sister Erin, 21, chose the pup – who they believe is a black Lab and weiner dog mix – and Joe says he had his doubts initially. <br/><br/>But Oreo quickly won him round and now the pair are inseparable.<br/><br/>Battery technician Joe bought his Harley Road King brand new in 2003 for £20k and says he’s owned bikes since he was 12. <br/><br/>Joe and Oreo ride from spring to autumn – with Joe saying they’re on the bike “full time”. <br/><br/>“Every time I take him out, I’m surprised it hasn’t caused a car crash, people are so distracted,” said Joe. <br/><br/>“He just wants to do anything I'm doing. If I climb into a go-kart or anything the dog wants some of that. <br/><br/>“Most girls will say 'that's the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life' - my standard answer is 'why thank you, but what do you think of the dog'. <br/><br/>“I can walk out into the garage and bump the starter on the Harley and that dog will come running down the hallway every time - it's the funniest thing to see.”")
